Kayikçi
(Boatman)
A
charming young woman, her dress blowing in the breeze, steps onstage in
the main square of a small town. While singing an old Rembetico, she steals
the heart of a young man in the crowd... This is the tragic yet also comic
love story of a deaf and mute fisherman from the Turkish town Çesme, and
a singer from the Greek island Chios.
Kayikçi falls in love with Evdokia during Çesme Festival. Unable
to forget her, he is determined to find her again, at whatever the cost.
One night he secretly swims to Chios on the inner tube of a truck wheel.
People of Chios and the Greek police are shocked at the sight of this
stranger emerging from the sea with no passport or identity card. Evdokia
saves her beloved by revealing their secret affair; Kayikçi is
released and sent back to Çesme. But things get no less complicated on
his return to Çesme...
Kayikçi
is not only the story of two lovers trying to reunite, but also the story
of love and struggle between two neighbouring societies so close yet also
so far apart.
Ege'nin
iki kiyisindaki insanlar; yasamlari, umutlari ve düsleriyle birbirlerine
çok benzemektedir. Düsman ve komsu kavramlarinin birbirine karistirildigi
kritik bir noktadayiz. Iste bu noktada, askin en etkili iyilestirici güç
olduguna inaniyorum.

Gerçekten
bu film, çok büyük sözler söylemeden sinematografik diliyle Anadolu'nun
mermer degil, mozaik oldugunun da farkina vardiriyor. "Kayikçi", bilinçaltimizdan
disari çikarmaktan korktuklarimizi yüreklice bizlere animsatan sasirtici,
barisçi ve sevgi dolu bir film.

bir filmin adidir, ama aslinda Kayikçi yürekten seven genç bir adamin

kanatlarinda uzanir : Gel, gel Kayikçi. Yavas yavas...

izledikten sonra uzun zamandir "Türk Sinemasi" nin böyle naif bir eser
çikarmadigini farkettim. Tamamen gerçek yasamin disinda tiplemelerin seçildigi
"sanat" filmlerinden sonra arinmami sagladi "Kayikçi"...
